OceanWatch Australia (OceanWatch) has been protecting biodiversity and threatened species and restoring important marine habitats for the benefit of the Australian marine environment since 1989. With the adoption of best practices for fishing and aquaculture, the encouragement of stewardship actions amongst coastal and marine users, and advocacy and support for works to protect, rehabilitate, restore and enhance the marine environment as the core focus, OceanWatch’s Vison is for a healthy, productive values and responsibly used marine environment. In 2014 OceanWatch embarked upon its role as Australia’s Marine Natural Resource Management organisation following recognition by the Australian Government.
OceanWatch is a national not-for-profit company limited by guarantee with Deductible Gift Recipient status and is a registered charity with the Charities and Not-for-profit Commission. Currently, OceanWatch has three members:
Members are equivalent to shareholders in a proprietary limited company. Membership is open to organisations who contribute financially to OceanWatch and have a strategic capability to assist OceanWatch achieve its Vision. Associate Membership is open to organisations that are not financial contributors to OceanWatch but may contribute financially and in-kind to specific OceanWatch projects. Associate Members are not “Members” of the Company under the Corporations Act 2001.
