QLD governance info

There are 12 regional NRM organisations in Queensland, each with a unique structure and deep connections to the communities in which they operate. Together, they work out of 28 rural and regional sites and employ over 350 staff.

Each group has a board of directors and strong governance arrangements, ideally positioning the organisations to respond to local needs in appropriate ways. Board members are representatives of their communities.

NRM Regions Queensland is the representative body for NRM across the state, formed by the 12 regional NRM organisations more than 20 years ago. We coordinate statewide programs and provide a forum for these organisations to collaborate and support one another.

Our goal is to amplify the voices of our members and to influence, support, and promote their work.

We are passionate about protecting Queensland’s natural resources and support our members in planning for the sustainable management of our soil, water and unique biodiversity. They do this by working with their communities to develop strategic NRM plans.

Once those plans are in place, we work together, as a sector, to secure investment for on-ground actions that have a positive impact on our natural assets, resulting in resilient landscapes and optimistic communities.

We support our regional NRM organisation members to deliver sustainability outcomes through mentoring and leadership, advocating for coordinated investment in natural resource management, and identifying areas for training and improvement.

Guided by the NRM Regions Queensland 2023–26 Strategic Plan, we are committed to delivering positive environmental and social change at the regional level, across the whole of Queensland.

NRM Regions Queensland is a Company Limited by Guarantee with a board consisting of the Chairs of 11 of the regional organisations and one associate member.
