Funded through the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust, East Gippsland CMA is connecting and protecting threatened ecological communities – the Gippsland Redgum Grassy Woodland and Seasonal Herbaceous Wetlands. Threatened by extensive land clearing, livestock, invasive weeds, and climate change, the Moormurng and Bengworden Reserves are some of the largest remaining ecosystems providing important habitat for rare and endangered species.
Extensive consultation has occurred with partners including Gunaikurnai, community groups, non-government organisations, and land management agencies to inform the project. Restoration activities include control of invasive weeds, revegetation, fire management, and establishing land protection agreements on private land.
