Weeds include both exotic and endemic plants that have become established beyond their original home-range, requiring control activities to reduce their environmental, economic, social or cultural impacts. 

More than 3200 species of exotic plants have been introduced to Australia, with a significant proportion of these moved for gardening purposes. 

Established weeds can be extremely challenging to control, requiring long term activities to deplete seed banks and other propagules. 

Active community involvement in follow-up removal of emergent weeds following initial “knock-down” control has proved effective in some circumstances to control and locally eradicate some weed species.
