In bushland with a legacy of weed invasion, fire very often leads to an explosion of growth, both native plants and weeds. This can be a threat and an opportunity.
Weed populations can dramatically increase, but so can fire adapted natives. So fire provides rare opportunities to improve the health of fire adapted bushland and gain control over invasive weeds, if appropriate and timely work is undertaken. Covering the need for understanding of the original reference ecosystem; habitat considerations; the most efficient weed control techniques; and the assessement of site priorities for post fire bush regeneration.
