The ‘Threatened Mallee Birds: Restoring landscape-scale connectivity to strengthen resilience’ project demonstrates how government investment priorities can be aligned with ILM planning and delivery, for the benefit of multiple species and places rather than species-specific conservation in isolation.
Recent changes such as the identification of Priority Places provide funding for a regional management strategy to be implemented. This shift highlights the adoption of biodiversity management which is more effective and efficient and considers the importance of synergies and potential negative outcomes, particularly under a changing climate where adaptive capacity and landscape resilience is critical to ongoing conservation efforts.
In our region this is represented by our works on the Mallee Birds Ecological Community– targeting key threats, combining stakeholder strategic directions, priorities and targets for biodiversity conservation and management to deliver on medium to long term goals outlined in the Mallee Regional Catchment Strategy across five priority landscapes in the region.
