Morning: Explore one of the Australian Government’s priority places — the Eastern Forests of Far North Queensland. On this trip you will adventure to several unique and threatened ecological communities and hear about the on-ground biodiversity and biosecurity projects (incl. Yellow Crazy Ants) that have been co-designed with scientists, Traditional Owners and land managers.
Visit the endangered Spectacled Flying-foxes at a Flying-fox “camp” and at the Tolga Bat Hospital and learn about the on-ground collaborative projects being undertaken to tackle threats from urbanisation, climate change and the noxious weed, wild tobacco bush.
Afternoon: After lunch you will visit restoration activities in the Mabi forest to build habitat resilience and connectivity and projects protecting endangered species like the Northern Bettong, which plays a crucial role in the region’s ecological balance.

Biodiversity and Conservation Option A & B field trips begin together, leaving Cairns, travelling to Gordonvale, then climbing the Great Dividing Range via the Gilles Highway onto the Atherton Tablelands. After lunch, the two trips split with Option A heading back to Cairns with more project stops along the way.
