Across Queensland’s Reef catchments, NRMRQ — in partnership with regional NRM organisations — is redefining a standard in collaborative, science-informed environmental management. The Paddock to Reef Program’s Regional Engagement Project, translates complex scientific data into regionally relevant knowledge and practical support for on-ground action. Central to its success is a genuine two-way communication, ensuring that local insights continuously inform program evolution and drive regional ownership.
This regionally-led model stands apart through its co-creation: tailored communication and engagement strategies that empower communities, build trust, and align local efforts with state and national Reef protection objectives. By supporting uptake of best land management practices, strengthening data quality, and enhancing the return on government investment, NRM organisations deliver measurable improvements in water quality and community capacity.
We will explore how this framework is achieving outcomes for the Great Barrier Reef and offering a model for collaborative environmental action across Australia’s NRM sector.
