We advocate the development of environmental report cards using web-based, interactive formats, to overcome the trade-offs associated with communicating science to audiences who require varying levels of technical detail. Combining user-centred design with visualisation-rich interactivity, and progressive disclosure, or drill-down, functionality, allows us to serve up high level, easy to consume information for the public, and detailed technical information for decision-makers, scientists and delivery partners.
Previously, developing engaging interactive report cards has been an expensive undertaking. One that would be prohibitive for most NRM organisations. However, we have created a report card generating application, which substantially reduces the cost of entry for organisations wishing to employ modern reporting methods.
Natural Capital Impact provides a flexible way for NRM organisations to communicate the condition of the values of their region, the great work they’re doing to improve those values and the outcomes for the environment and their communities.
