The Hills and Fleurieu region, 94% of the land is managed by around 6,000 landholders, with approximately 600 new managers stepping in every 7 years. This continual turnover, combined with the region’s ecological complexity, presents a significant challenge. How can we ensure long-term, sustainable management of natural resources across such a dynamic landscape?
The Stewardship Program is our innovative response. Drawing on over 20 years of collaboration and learning, it redefines how we support the care of land, water, and nature. The program provides landholders with personalised, on the ground support, connecting them to expert guidance, regenerative farming practices, Indigenous knowledge, workshops, and demonstration sites.
At its core, the program recognises that people are integral to the landscape. Through creativity, courage, and a deep understanding of place, we are cultivating a new generation of land stewards, reshaping our landscapes, strengthening communities, and reinforcing our regional identity for generations to come.
