The Upper Mitta Mitta Flagship project aims to protect and improve the condition of the catchment by addressing priority threats in partnership with the community, Traditional Owners, land managers, and other stakeholders. It also seeks to enhance access to key recreational areas to support economic and social wellbeing and improve habitat for platypus and the endangered Macquarie Perch. A Project Steering Committee, with members from the community, local government, agencies, and recreational groups guided the development of a ‘community led’ Catchment Action Plan (CAP) in 2020. The CAP guides works and has helped achieve significant additional investment such as the Nature Fund’s “Bringing back the Maccas” project establishing in-stream habitat, fencing, and revegetation along Livingstone Creek. Having a plan with strong community, agency and landholder support are key to enhancing catchment and waterway management in the Upper Mitta Mitta catchment.
