Southern Gulf NRM and Gulf Savannah NRM, funded by the Australian Government, have launched an innovative project to improve land condition, enhance productivity, build climate resilience, and increase biodiversity across Northwest Queensland. The project is being delivered across 18 grazing properties spanning 90,000 hectares, and involves setting up demonstration sites for sustainable land management practices and innovative technologies to monitor key indicators for land condition, soil carbon and biodiversity.
The project follows a two-year land condition monitoring project by Gulf Savannah NRM that found that region’s land condition continues to decline, affecting the land’s capacity to respond to rain, and impacting the long-term carrying capacity (LTCC) for livestock.
