Beau Murray is a proud Duduroa/Yorta Yorta man, also connected to the Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung, Wemba Wemba, and Muthi Muthi Nations. Although born and raised on Country, Beau found a disconnect from culture growing up and later became reconnected through his work with Duduroa Dhargal Aboriginal Corporation. His work is deeply personal, a journey of identity and purpose that he now shares with young people in schools and through community engagement.
In his role as Water Officer, Beau brings together Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Western water science to support the restoration and long-term care of Country. He has played a key part in the successful return of water to Ryan’s Lagoon — helping to restore cultural wetlands and create a space for future generations to connect with land, story, and learning.
Beyond Ryan’s, Beau’s work extends across the High Country and river systems of the region, including the return of threatened species like the Spotted Tree Frog to the West Kiewa River and Macquarie Perch to the Kiewa River. Seeing these species come back to places they belong is, for Beau, a powerful and rewarding experience — one that speaks to healing, balance, and the responsibilities of true custodianship.
