Yundu Mai, (Hello in Ewamian Language)
My Name is Mark Wargent. I am a proud Ewamian and Western Yalanji man who is passionate about our culture, caring for country and our people.
I am employed at Terrain NRM as the indigenous Partnership and Strategy Manager. My role is to engage traditional owners in a meaningful and beneficial manner and to advocate for the 20 plus traditional owner groups at an organisational and external level.
I have previously been an Indigenous Land and Sea Ranger on beautiful Ewamian Country, where I learned to care for country and cultural lore from my Elders. During my time as a ranger, I worked alongside NRM groups and have direct insight and experience on the gaps historically identified in Indigenous Engagement.
I am to work closely with Traditional Owners to ensure their rights and voices are heard as well as to help build their capacity to undertake NRM work on their country.
