The Carbon Farming Outreach Program on Kangaroo Island tackles one of the nation’s most pressing rural challenges: aligning climate resilience with productive, profitable agriculture. Funded through the Australian Government’s Carbon Farming Outreach initiative, this project provides tailored support to livestock producers and land managers to understand emissions dynamics, carbon markets, and opportunity pathways.
Through on-farm demonstrations, expert-led workshops and practical webinars, producers gain the skills needed to translate abstract carbon concepts into ground-level action. Key topics include pasture management to build soil carbon, improving livestock genetics for reduced emission intensity, and integrating soil health practices that underpin both productivity and climate outcomes.
By bridging scientific knowledge with real-world farming systems, the Landscape Board is supporting producers to future-proof their businesses, strengthen landscape function, and contribute meaningfully to national emissions targets.
