The Maliyan Works Crew, part of the First Nations Conservation Training Program, has reached an important milestone after completing 12 months of structured training toward a Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management.
Each week, participants engaged in a blend of classroom learning and on‑country training, building skills in areas such as plant identification, rural fencing and drone operation.
In early February, all four crew members successfully completed their Certificate III qualification—achieving strong results and finishing ahead of schedule. This accomplishment reflects their commitment to developing technical capability and pursuing future opportunities in land management.
A graduation ceremony recognising their achievements was held in February 2026. The remaining trainee cohort is continuing its training journey, with approximately 10 months of learning and practical experience still to go. Over this period, participants will further develop technical skills, leadership capabilities and cultural facilitation experience while contributing to a diverse range of conservation and land management projects.
The First Nations Conservation Training Program continues to support meaningful pathways into land stewardship roles, strengthening workforce capability and celebrating the deep knowledge and cultural connection First Nations peoples bring to caring for Country.
