Cool burning for culture and ecological knowledge

North West Local Land Services is working with community to restore and improve the condition of critically endangered box gum grassy woodland (BGGW) across the region.

To achieve this outcome, work includes:

  • increasing awareness in the community of BGGW and understanding of the role that traditional fire management practices have in its protection and recovery
  • conducting 4 cultural burns
  • revegetating up to 2 ha of the BGGW community
  • weed control works across 100 ha.
