Kangaroo Island native plant nursery

  • Context: Regional

The Kangaroo Island Native Plant Nursery is a cornerstone of regional conservation and landscape recovery. Established to propagate locally sourced native flora, the nursery provides high-quality seedlings for revegetation, roadside plantings, biodiversity corridors and private land greening projects.

By focusing on locally adapted seed stock, the nursery supports plantings that are more resilient to local climate conditions and ecological interactions. It’s outputs fuel restoration activities across public reserves, farming landscapes and community-led conservation initiatives.

More than a production hub, the nursery supports skill-building, volunteer engagement and community connection with the landscape. Workshops, school visits and volunteering opportunities foster local stewardship and deepen understanding of ecological processes.

In a region rebuilding after catastrophic bushfire, the nursery plays a vital role in restoring habitat connectivity, supporting wildlife populations and strengthening landscape resilience.
