Healthy soils underpin productive agriculture, thriving ecosystems, and resilient communities. The Australian Government’s National Soil Monitoring Program is establishing the first nationally consistent, long term approach to measuring and understanding soil condition and change across Australia’s agricultural landscapes.
Wimmera CMA is contributing local knowledge and regional expertise to this important national effort. By supporting soil sampling, data collection, and collaboration with landholders and research partners, Wimmera CMA is helping ensure the Victoria’s soils are represented in a consistent but also regionally relevant dataset.
The program focuses on tracking key physical, chemical, and biological soil indicators over time. This information will help land managers, researchers, and decision makers better understand how soils respond to climate, land use, and management practices, supporting more informed and sustainable choices into the future.
