Limestone Coast Feral Deer Eradication Program

  • Context: State

The Limestone Coast Feral Deer Eradication Program aims to completely remove feral deer from the region to protect agriculture, biodiversity, and public safety. Feral deer cause significant damage to crops, native vegetation, and forestry, while also spreading disease and increasing road-collision risks. The program brings together landholders, councils, state agencies, and specialist contractors in a coordinated, landscape-scale effort.

Key factors in its success include strong cross-tenure collaboration, consistent community reporting, the use of modern detection tools such as thermal imaging and aerial surveillance and strong community support. By working across property boundaries and maintaining shared commitment, the program is steadily reducing deer numbers and restoring the health and productivity of the Limestone Coast landscape.
