Blue Mountains City Council (BMCC), in partnership with Greater Sydney Local Land Services, has installed its largest biofilter at the Braeside stormwater mitigation site, helping to future proof Greater Blue Mountains world heritage area swamps and creeks for bigger stormwater flows as our climate changes.
Once planted, this new biofilter will give polluted stormwater a triple‑treatment: removing nitrogen, phosphorus and harmful bacteria before sending much cleaner water to our important swamps and creeks downstream. Think of it as a super‑powered water filter for the natural environment.
Protecting our swamps means protecting our carbon sinks, supporting natural water flow, and keeping vital habitat healthy for our wildlife.
