Positive post‑burn response at Monash grassland

A late‑winter ecological burn at Monash Grassland—delivered by ACT Natural Resource Management (NRM) in partnership with the TCCS Place Management Team, ACT Parks and Conservation Service, and supported by local volunteers—has produced strong early results. 

The burn, conducted under the Australian Government’s Restoring Grasslands and Woodlands program, has prompted a rapid and healthy response from native grasses and wildflowers. The areas of bare ground created by the fire are now providing ideal conditions for new seed germination. 

Monash Grassland is also part of the Biodiversity Hotspot Weed Control program, funded through the Australian Government’s Supporting Communities Manage Pest Animals and Weeds initiative. Over the coming months, the First Nations Conservation Training Program team will work alongside contractors to carry out targeted, fine‑scale weed control to further improve grassland condition. These efforts will be complemented by ongoing support from the TCCS team and the dedicated Monash Grasslands volunteers.
