Cape York NRM and the TNQ Drought Hub’s SATSIE program are joining forces with local councils and businesses to support agricultural projects and food security through the Australian government funded ‘Cultivating Climate-Smart and Sustainable Agriculture’ on Cape York Peninsula.
The first stage of the project will establish Communities of Practice with Indigenous and non-Indigenous landholders and community-based agricultural enterprises led by Aboriginal Shire Councils to support peer-to-peer learning and collaboration. The CoPs will work at the business, community and regional scale to identify priority needs for food security.
This project is supported by the Australian Government through funding from the Natural Heritage Trust under the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program.
“Working holistically on the food and agriculture system at these different scales with local communities and businesses and a broad range of partner stakeholders we hope to align investments and capacity-building to achieve long-term food security for communities in Cape York Peninsula.”
