The Australian Sustainable Finance Institute (ASFI) was established to realign the Australian financial services system so that money flows to activities for a sustainable, resilient and inclusive Australia.
NRM Regions Australia’s ‘In the Tent with NRM’ webinar series (14 November 2024) hosted ASFI’s Head of Taxonomy and Natural Capital, Nicole Yazbek-Martin to present a briefing session to introduce, test and seek substantive feedback on the draft climate change mitigation criteria for the agriculture and land sector, as well as the taxonomy’s draft social safeguards and ‘Do No Significant Harm’ criteria.
The Australian Sustainable Finance Institute (ASFI) is managing the development of the Australian sustainable finance taxonomy in partnership with the Commonwealth Treasury.
The taxonomy is a financial classification system that will be used to define sustainable economic activities in a credible and transparent manner, helping accelerate the allocation of private capital towards activities that support Australia’s sustainability goals.
ASFI has published the draft taxonomy for public consultation on 30 October. The public consultation draft will contain climate change mitigation criteria for the agriculture, forestry, and land sector as well as for the five other key economic sectors that are being covered by the government’s six sector decarbonisation plans. The initial Australian taxonomy is expected to be finalised by 31 December 2024.
The session provided an overview of the taxonomy’s development to date and the work being put forward for public consultation.
