A novel project delivers lessons in navigating regulatory processes to deliver ecological benefits
Describes the removal of a levee to restore natural tidal flow to a saltmarsh wetlands, as part of the Blue Carbon Ecosystem Restoration project. The project builds upon previous weed control and native vegetation restoration in surrounding habitats, to deliver multiple benefits for climate mitigation, climate adaptation, and coastal protection. The novel nature of the project required careful navigation of regulatory processes, and these lessons are being shared.
