Acknowledges the work of the Commonwealth in increasing integrity and transparency in the ACCU scheme. It calls for greater of regional NRM planning/organisations and a commitment by government to prioritise co-benefits in ACCU purchases.
The submission acknowledges and supports the work undertaken by the Government so far to improve the integrity, transparency and flexibility of the ACCU scheme in response to the Chubb review.
NRM Regions Australia also flags the need to provide a clearer definition of ‘value for money’ in carbon abatement purchasing within the legislation to enable projects that deliver additional environmental, social, and climatic co-benefits to be prioritised.
NRM Regions Australia also calls on the government to deliver on its commitment to explore a greater role for regional NRM plans and organisations in informing the planning and establishment of ACCU projects, and reflecting this role though an update to the CFI Act.
