As part of the Australian and NSW governments broader Riverbank Rehabilitation Project, North Coast Local Land Services’ Cultural Waterways Program conducts cultural walkovers and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage (ACH) assessments across Travelling Stock Reserves.
Recent Cultural walkovers have been through Biripi and Gumbaynggirr Country, on the mid-north coast and have included weed control work, identification and protection of significant cultural sites, such as artefacts and scar trees, and replacement of fencing to protect a culturally significant site from livestock and unauthorised access. The Cultural walkovers also support reconnection with Country that has previously been inaccessible to the local Aboriginal Elders and Cultural Knowledge Holders.
