Murray and Riverina LLS are working with private land managers to protect the endangered Plains-wanderer by monitoring habitat conditions, strategically grazing native grasslands, managing pests and weeds, and fostering community support. These activities are being funded by the Australian Government and are aimed at helping captive-bred plains-wanderer chicks survive after release into the project area.
Control of invasive predators including foxes and cats is underway now in areas with Plains-wanderer habitat. Over the next 6 months, Murray and Riverina LLS will also work with landholders and contractors to control boxthorn and rabbit populations and undertake strategic grazing of grasslands to maintain suitable Plains-wanderer habitat.
