The Biosecurity Hub Project strengthens environmental biosecurity through increasing the communication, coordination, and collaboration between NRM groups, government and non-government organisations working in the biosecurity system. The Hub serves two overarching functions of sharing information on best practices with end-users, and representing the views and interests of NRMs through consultation processes.
NRM Regions Australia gratefully acknowledges the financial support from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry for the Biosecurity Hub project.
2 year project from 2023-2025
The key focus of the Hub is to address regional NRM organisations needs, through:
There is also a strategic element, enabling NRM RA to have input into the development of new strategies, plans and processes related to national biosecurity matters.
The NRM Biosecurity Hub is an Australia-wide project, collaboratively engaging regional NRM organisations and government and non-government organisations working in the biosecurity system.
NRMs play a critical role working at the regional level across Australia to reduce the impacts of pests, weeds and disease on our natural environment, particularly threatened species. The 54 NRMs around the country provide significant capacity, creating opportunities to leverage resources and align priorities with biosecurity focused agencies working to implement national biosecurity objectives..
“Representing NRM in a variety of Tasmanian biosecurity forums, I rely on strong national and local networks and coordinated information sharing to stay informed on emerging issues. The strength of the regional NRM model lies in its ability to collaborate, share critical information, and support a coordinated approach to biosecurity challenges across Australia; the Biosecurity Hub project brings this all together.”
“Managing biosecurity requires landscape-scale responses that engage the whole community; the NRM sector consistently works at this level to protect our natural assets. The new strategic and tactical approaches detailed in the Action Plan for the National Biosecurity Strategy will greatly improve the way we all manage biosecurity in Australia. NRM Regions Australia looks forward to contributing to their implementation.”
