Save our Scarlet Robin

South East Local Land Services is promoting local community action towards the recognition and protection of the scarlet robin and its habitat. 

The scarlet robin (Petroica boodang) is listed as vulnerable in NSW.

The Save Our Scarlet Robin project is helping farmers and other land managers to protect and restore critical habitat for small birds. 

Efforts also have a positive effect on farm productivity by: 

  • stabilising soils
  • reducing impacts from storms
  • providing shade and shelter for livestock.

Results to date include:

  • developed 76 landholder projects covering around 500 ha
  • protected 345 ha of remnant native vegetation
  • planted approximately 38,000 native plants
  • installed 63 km of stock exclusion fencing
  • delivered 57 training and awareness-raising events for around 1,300 people.
