Following the devastating 2019-20 bushfires, the recovery of the natural environment is ongoing. This Murray and Riverina Local Land Services project involving the Wiradjuri people of the Brungle-Tumut Local Aboriginal Land Council highlights recovery activities from a traditional owner perspective. In this video, Wiradjuri ladies are trained in the skill of collecting native plant seeds for sowing.
Indigenous biocultural values can be heavily impacted by wildfires. Supporting Traditional Owners to be involved in bushfire recovery around culturally significant species and places can help recover biodiversity and heal communities impacted by the fires. This video gives an example of where collaborative work between a regional NRM organisation and Wiradjuri women is helping restore culturally significant species and places, open up business opportunities, and enable intergenerational knowledge sharing.
