Funded by the Victorian Government’s Our Catchments, Our Communities program and Coliban Water, the 20 year Healthy Coliban Catchment plan has North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) partnering with Coliban Water, DJAARA, local councils and communities to protect water quality, fauna and flora, and cultural history of the area. Now in its eighth year, the next stage of the project is to restore and protect a key section of the Coliban River at Lauriston where infestations of willows, blackberry, and gorse will be removed in critical platypus habitat, and fencing will be installed to protect new plantings from livestock.
The catchment faces known threats from existing and future developments, uncontrolled livestock access to waterways and riparian areas, and climate change.
