Alinytjara Wilurara Landscape Board’s results from recent fauna survey work conducted In the Pintji, Yellabinna and Immarna reflected both the prevailing drought conditions and recent localised rainfall.
Warru or black-flanked rock-wallaby (Petrogale lateralis centralis) trapping in the Pintji fenced exclosure, an area free from cats and foxes, saw 47 Warru caught. 33 of these wallabies, an important animal in Aṉangu culture, will be relocated to wild populations at Aeroplane Hill and New Well as part of the Warru Recovery Plan.
Pitfall trapping recorded six species of dunnarts across the 3 sites in the AW region, along with the Mitchell’s hopping mouse and tracks of a marsupial mole. The Sandhill dunnart project is funded under the Australian Government Natural Heritage Trust.
