Terrain NRM’s streambank restoration work along the Daintree River has survived unscathed following recent intense rainfall. Exacerbated by Cyclone Jasper in 2023, the site had suffered ongoing erosion problems near the ferry crossing.
One hundred metres of riverbank was restored last dry season, with a combination of engineered rock work, earthworks, revegetation and tree rootballs being embedded into the rock wall to protect the mangrove plantings.
Terrain NRM partnered with the Douglas Shire Council and Jabalbina Rangers to protect the streambank as part of an Australian Government Reef Trust project to stop fine sediment washing out to the Great Barrier Reef.
