The capture of an elusive fox on Dream Island was an important win for this year’s work on the Australian Government funded Corner Inlet Connections project. West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority (CMA) has been working for nearly two decades to protect the Ramsar site, along with partners including Parks Victoria, Trust for Nature and Birdlife Australia.
Foxes are the number one predator for the internationally significant inlet’s beach nesting birds, which include Hooded Plovers and Small Terns.  The removal of the fox from the 500-hectare Dream Island, one of four dune (barrier) islands around Corner Inlet, will increase the likelihood of breeding success.
