Greater Sydney Local Land Services (LLS) visited Budgewoi Beach to see the work that the Dunecare team are completing with funding from LLS. Since 1996, Dunecare members have restored 27 hectares of sand dunes and bushland reversing intense sand mining operations in the 1960s and ’70s which left the dune system degraded.
The project includes collecting local seeds and germinating them in their own nursery, and replanting native species in the dunes and bushland providing critical habitat for nesting shorebirds and coastal wildlife.
