As part of the Cool Burning for Culture and Ecological Knowledge project, North West LLS recently held a plant and weed identification in Box Gum Grassy Woodlands field day with local Indigenous Ranger groups; Galuma-li Dhawun Rangers, Warruwi Dhuurran Rangers and YMG Descendants River Rangers.
The hands-on approach allowed rangers to apply their learning directly on Country, strengthening their confidence in managing land sustainably and protecting biodiversity.
Funded by the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust, the project aims to improve or maintain the condition of critically endangered White Box–Yellow Box–Blakely’s Red Gum Grassy Woodlands by increasing understanding of the role that traditional fire management practices have in its protection and recovery.
