North East Catchment Management Authority (NECMA) have been working with Parks Victoria, Hancock Victorian Plantations (HVP), and Alpine Resorts Victoria to monitor and control sambar deer across Alpine peatlands in the North East, East Gippsland, and West Gippsland catchment areas, Alpine Peatlands are critical for water regulation, carbon storage, and biodiversity.
Th Australian Government funded project has enabled deer control work, survey of over 118,000 hectares, and deployment of camera traps. The data collected has guided real-time control efforts and is tracking long-term deer activity trends.
