The North East Catchment Management Authority (NECMA) is one of ten authorities established by the Victorian Government in July 1997.
Each CMA works with the community, government and funding organisations to protect and enhance land, water and biodiversity resources.
We encourage landholders, community groups and government to address natural resource management issues facing our region, including adapting to climate change, fostering sustainable agriculture, managing cultural heritage and identifying the impacts of ‘tree change’ trends on land management in North East Victoria.
North East CMA works closely with Traditional Owner Groups that do not currently have formal recognition under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 as a Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP). North East CMA works with Traditional Owner and First Nations groups to achieve outcomes for the groups and for the North East region.
North-east Victoria has 2 major urban centres (Wangaratta and Wodonga) with smaller settlements spread across the region in the local government areas of Wodonga, Indigo, Wangaratta, Alpine and Towong, plus parts of the Moira, Mansfield and East Gippsland shires.
Diverse, healthy and connected landscapes and communities working together for healthier landscapes in a changing environment.
We will achieve this by supporting the protection, transformation and adaptation of landscapes in north east Victoria.
