South West NRM works to address the triple threats of climate change, biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation in one of the most biologically rich, yet threatened environments on earth – our South West.
Across 20 years we’ve planted millions of seedlings, rehabilitated thousands of hectares of degraded land and protected the region’s iconic threatened species.
With our partners, we operate at the intersection of science, technology and landcare, across natural and agricultural landscapes. We deliver evidence-based solutions for creating healthy ecosystems as well as improved productivity and sustainability for farmers.
Our South West NRM region is located within a global biodiversity hotspot – 1 of only 2 in Australia! It stretches across 4 million hectares of wildly diverse landscapes and ecosystems – from world-renowned coastlines, to towering old growth forests, internationally-significant wetlands and mighty rivers, inland salt flats and 108 nationally-listed, threatened species.
We’ve been spearheading efforts to conserve and restore the natural environment of our South West for more than 20 years by working in partnership with community, government agencies, NGOs, research institutions, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and Traditional Owners, and private landholders.
Sustainable agriculture is defined as meeting our current needs, without negatively affecting the ability of future generations to meet their needs.
It is focused on driving farming efficiencies while maintaining the health of soil and water resources, supporting biodiversity, reducing emissions and building resilience to climate change.
For more than two decades, South West NRM has been developing case studies and other resources to demonstrate how farmers can improve efficiencies and sustainability. We support farmers to grow their business while caring for the land.
