This collaborative alliance has established an indigenous economy and repaired native fish habitats
The tri-state Murray NRM Regional Alliance covers 21 million hectares of land, contributes billions of dollars in agricultural output, and is home to more than 30 Aboriginal groups, and 500 threatened species. The Alliance brings together the rivers’ six NRM bodies to grow the economy, secure the environment, and motivate local communities. As part of this work, an Aboriginal-led movement using Fairtrade models has linked Aboriginal groups throughout the River Murray corridor to improve economic, social and cultural strength of communities on Country. There’s also been great success in on-ground actions to restore native fish habitats, with collaboration from recreational fishers, traditional owners and other project partners.
