Badimia Bandi Barna Aboriginal Corporation (BBBAC) and members of the Firesticks Alliance recently came together to share knowledge on Cultural Burning. The NACC NRM team, Mid-West Aboriginal Rangers and other stakeholders collaborated with Elders, knowledge holders, and First Nations community members for three days of learning and cultural exchange on Country.
The first day began with a Welcome to Country followed by a Smoking Ceremony led by Badimia Elder Gloria Fogarty. Day 2 saw the Firestick Alliance take the lead, sharing how they plan and conduct cool burns based combining traditional techniques with contemporary frameworks.
The project is jointly funded by the Australian Government’s National Indigenous Australians Agency, NACC NRM, Beach Energy, and Mitsui E&P Australia.
