As part of the Growing Climate Smart Grazing in the Condamine River Basin project, Southern Queensland Landscapes is delivering a four-year project dedicated to supporting the region’s landholders to build more sustainable, productive and climate-resilient grazing systems.
Alongside grazing and pasture management, the project also offers cool burning for pasture rejuvenation/wildfire mitigation, using First Nations practices. Indigenous burning practices are one of the bushfire mitigation strategies recognised by the Queensland Fire Department in their recently released Queensland Bushfire Plan.
Southern Queensland Landscapes is partnering with landholders and First Nations Fire Practitioners to use cool burns to improve pasture, manage weeds and boost long-term health of agricultural landscapes. Funded by the Australian Government’s Climate-Smart Agriculture Program, SQL deliver fire practitioner engagement, project planning, mapping and monitoring free to landholders.
