Understanding the impacts of climate, land use and land management on soil condition and trends is critical to improving agricultural productivity and sustainability. Over the next six months, the six regional NRM organisations in south west WA will be involved in collecting and sampling soils, with project staff contacting landholders directly to invite them to participate.
This work is being undertaken as part of the National Soil Monitoring Program with funding through the Australian Government Natural Heritage Trust in collaboration with CSIRO and the WA Department of Primary Industries and regional Development. Over 3000 sites nationally will be sampled as part of the monitoring program.
