Territory NRM staff are working with the Traditional Owners at Garig Gunak Barlu National Park to protect the Cobourg Peninsula’s internationally recognised Ramsar wetlands as part of the Australian Government Natural Heritage Trust funding.
The project involves the setup and monitoring of 50 camera traps and habitat assessments across the wetlands to understand feral pig numbers, movements and impact providing crucial information for future management.
In addition, follow-up of previous control work showed promising results and further treatment of prickly pear and the removal of remnant sickle pod, passiflora, and mission grass.
