Melbourne Water is leading the Reimagining Tarralla Creek project in partnership with the Australian Government, Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, Maroondah City Council, the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, and the local community.
The creek, wetlands and shared pathways were co-designed in 2018 through a mixture of community feedback and integration of local and Traditional Owner knowledge and values. The project aims to create natural waterways and vibrant green spaces for both wildlife and people.
The three-stage project is jointly funded by the Australian Government’s Urban Rivers and Catchments Program and Melbourne Water. Stage 1 was completed in 2022 with 500m of concrete pipes converted into a natural waterway, with bird hide, paths and gathering spaces. Stage 2 design finalisation is in process, with construction to begin in 2027.
