As part of the Restore Lake Gore and surrounds project, South Coast NRM have partnered with the Esperance Bird Observers’ Group Inc. and Esperance Tjaltjraak Native Title Aboriginal Corporation to conduct annual shorebird surveys across Esperance’s two Ramsar Wetland systems at Lake Gore and Lake Warden. The migratory birds spend at least six months of each year at these sites in Australia, and understanding more about their ecology is critical to their ongoing protection.

South Coast NRM recently hosted a shorebird identification workshop with Birdlife Australia to improve community birding skills and recruit new surveyors for the annual shorebird count.
