Hills & Fleurieu Landscape Board is delivering two major preparedness projects along the Southern Fleurieu coast to bolster ecosystem resilience ahead of the potential threat posed by H5 avian influenza. This includes undertaking targeted offshore island restoration works and intensive invasive predator control programs on the mainland in partnership with local community groups and conservation stakeholders. These efforts are focused on protecting nationally listed threatened species and maintaining the integrity of sensitive wetland and coastal habitats.
By reducing pressures from invasive predators and strengthening the health of these important coastal ecosystems, the Hills & Fleurieu LB aims to minimise the risk of disease spread and improve overall ecological resilience. These projects are funded by the Australian Government with support from the Department for Environment and Water and local councils.
