The Peel-Harvey Catchment Council (5 Rivers NRM) has launched the Gabi Bidi “Water Pathways” Tiny Lab and Science Strategy, an initiative, funded by the Western Australian Government, dedicated to restoring the ecological health of the Mandurah estuary. To bring scientific research directly into the community, 5 Rivers NRM is working with local scientists, schools, and community members to foster a deeper understanding of estuary health and to implement data-driven restoration efforts. The strategy emphasises the importance of “water pathways”—the connections that sustain life within the catchment and seeks to improve water quality and habitat resilience.
Chair of 5 Rivers NRM, Paddi Creevey OAM said “This is so important to our community and the whole catchment. As a science-based organisation with a 1.12 million hectare water catchment to protect and restore, we need to work in collaboration with others. The Strategy, with the research infrastructure, will inspire priority science for our internationally significant Mandurah estuary and the rivers that flow into it”.
