North Coast Local Land Services (LLS) is expanding its feral deer management efforts in the Hastings region through a new GPS collaring initiative. Delivered in partnership with the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and with research partners the Centre for Invasive Species Solutions, this program is a core component of the long-term Hastings Feral Deer Management Plan. The collars transmit regular location data, allowing land managers to analyse movement patterns, habitat use and home range behaviour. This information will support more strategic planning and improve the effectiveness of long-term deer management programs.
North Coast Local Land Services General Manager Alison Bowman said. “That data will help guide targeted and coordinated management across both public and private land.”
Funded by the NSW government, the project builds on existing work under the Hastings Feral Deer Management Plan and will inform long-term control strategies across the region.
